Abilene Resident Found Dead in River Same Day Reported Missing

 

JONES COUNTY,  TX — The Texas Rangers, in coordination with the Abilene Police Department and Jones County Sheriff’s Office, are investigating the death of a missing person in Jones County.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., deputies with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased individual discovered in the Brazos River by a local citizen who was fishing. 

Investigators identified the body as that of a person from Abilene who had been reported missing to the Abilene Police Department earlier in the day. 

The Texas Rangers and the Abilene Police Department are assisting Jones County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

This case remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time. Anyone with information is asked to please come forward by contacting law enforcement.
