BATON ROUGE, LA — At least 10 people were injured on Thursday after gunfire erupted inside the food court at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, prompting a large response from local and federal law enforcement.
The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed multiple injuries, according to Police Chief Thomas Morse, who said the shooting began after two individuals got into an argument and opened fire on each other in the crowded area.
Authorities said at least 10 people were transported with injuries, though the extent of those injuries was not immediately released.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police responded to assist in the investigation, alongside local officers.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said “a weapon or weapons” were discharged during the incident and confirmed she is coordinating with East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore, who is monitoring developments.
Gov. Jeff Landry urged the public to avoid the area as law enforcement secured the scene.
Officials have not released information on potential suspects or arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
