CHICAGO, IL — Former San Angelo Central standout Davis Martin fired six innings of four-hit baseball Sunday to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 3-0 win over the defending American League champion Toronto Blue Jays.
Martin struck out six and walked two, throwing 57 of his 85 pitches for strikes in a sharp performance.
The White Sox won their third straight game and improved to 4-5 overall.
Martin, 29, is off to an exciting start in his fourth season in the majors. He has won both of his games, following a 9-4 win over Miami in which he allowed five hits and three runs in five innings. He also had six strikeouts and two walks in that game.
While playing for one of the league’s worst teams, Martin had only 10 career wins entering this season. He missed 2023 due to Tommy John surgery, and he has also spent time in the bullpen.
He had a breakout season last year with a career-high 25 starts. He posted a 4.10 ERA and an opponent’s batting average of .251.
He now appears to be a mainstay in the White Sox rotation and will look to continue his promising start when he visits the Kansas City Royals at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
