Blackwell Searching for New Football Coach

BLACKWELL, TX — Blackwell High School is searching for a new head football coach.

The Hornets have posted the job, along with the head track coach position, and athletic director duties could come with it depending on the applicant’s experience and qualifications.

Wiley Cummings had served in the roles the last two seasons, which included a 9-14 record as the football coach.

The Hornets overcame an 0-5 start in 2024 to win six straight games and a playoff trophy, but Blackwell didn’t have the same strong finish last year. After the Hornets again started 0-5, they finished as the district runner-up last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Blackwell, which is located about 50 miles north of San Angelo, competes in the smallest classification in Texas in Class 1A Division II. The Hornets will play the next two school years in a district with Trent, Panther Creek, Olfen and Loraine.
