SAN ANGELO, TX — The Wall boys and girls track and field teams swept the titles Thursday at the Angelo State University Spring Break High School Meet.
Among Wall’s numerous first-place finishes was a school-record performance from its 4x200 girls relay team.
The Lady Hawks’ quartet of Kynlee Stevens, Emma Surber, Jaycee White and Hannah Quesada blazed a time of 1 minute, 43.43 seconds to set a new top time at Wall with the state meet still nearly two months away.
Wall’s girls were barely able to hold off Class 4A Bandera, which finished just 0.11 seconds behind them. However, the Lady Hawks were 1.74 seconds ahead of third-place Panhandle.
Other wins for the Lady Hawks included Jaycee White in the 100 hurdles (14.45 seconds) and 300 hurdles (45.77), Hadley Kadlacek in the high jump (5-1), Emma Surber in the long jump (17-9.75) and Carsen Braden in the discus (122-4).
Wall’s girls totaled 144 points to run away with the meet. San Angelo Central was second with 78, while Panhandle was third with 72.
Other area winners on the girls’ side included Veribest’s Chloe Becker in the 100 (12.32) and 200 (25.48), Central’s Emauri Vinson in the 400 (1:00.78), Menard’s Danni Ruiz in the 800 (2:13.98) and 1600 (5:20.32), Sterling City’s Isa McGinnis in the 3200 (11:45.43), Irion County’s Presley Parker in the pole vault (11-6), and Central’s Serena Cucuta in the triple jump (38-1.25).
On the boys’ side, Wall also had a convincing victory with 133 points. Midland Christian was the runner-up with 79, followed by Central with 61 and Eldorado with 56.
Wall won all three relays as its 4x100 ran a 42.88, the 4x200 ran a 1:27.78, and the 4x400 clocked a 3:17.43.
Wall’s individual event winners were Slayton Hallmark in the 110 hurdles (14.29) and 300 hurdles (39.03) and Bryson McFarden in the high jump (6-4) and triple jump (45-0).
Central swept the 1600, led by Cameron Hash in 4:32.78. He was followed closely by Aiden Garcia in 4:33.31 and John Morales in 4:37.22.
Central also had a win from Trey Steele in the pole vault in 14-0.
