AUSTIN, TX — The No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns baseball team suffered a shocking 6-1 loss to unranked Tarleton State on Tuesday.
It was the biggest win in program history for Tarleton State, a former conference rival of Angelo State. The Texans improved to 13-7.
It was only the second loss of the season for the Longhorns, who dropped to 18-2.
Texas entered the day tied with USC for the fewest losses in the nation, but they were shut out over the final eight innings.
Tarleton’s offense, meanwhile, managed six runs on eight hits against a Texas pitching staff that ranked No. 3 in the nation in ERA (2.54).
It was the first meeting between the two programs in 29 years. Texas had won the previous four meetings.
No. 2 Texas represented the highest-ranked team Tarleton had ever played. The Texans were playing in a conference with Angelo State as recently as 2019. They lost all eight games to the Rams that season.
