WATER VALLEY, TX — The Water Valley duo of brothers Landon Lacy and Branson Lacy were named the Co-MVPs on the All-District 11-1A Basketball Team.
Landon, a senior, scored 18 points per game, along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Branson, a sophomore, averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Water Valley, which won the district title, finished with a 22-4 record and had a state ranking of No. 19 when the playoffs began. The Wildcats won three postseason games to reach the regional final, where they lost 52-47 to No. 6 Munday.
Water Valley also had the Defensive MVP in senior Brylan Naylor, who won the award for the second consecutive year. He finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2 steals per game.
Water Valley’s Matthew Mims was named the district’s Coach of the Year.
Robert Lee had the district’s Offensive MVP in senior Brenner Sherwood, who averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Irion County freshman Tyson Sanford was named the Newcomer of the Year, while Veribest sophomore Ethan Marshall was the Sixth Man of the Year.
First-team selections included Water Valley’s Boston Wiese; Veribest’s Bryce Martin, Sterling Salvato and Lorenzo Hight; Robert Lee’s Max Garcia; Garden City’s Jesiah Talamantes, Jacob Talamantes and Brik Fryar; Irion County’s Luke Seahorn; and Bronte’s Raymond Williams and Joel Pena.
Second-team picks included Veribest’s Tucker Martin, Xander Colon and Bentley Saladino; Robert Lee’s Dalton Abalos and Bryson Hayes; Garden City’s Presley Jost and Jayden Contreras; Irion County’s Maison Siller and Chandler Hill; Bronte’s Jack Robbins and Parker Holland; and Blackwell’s Slade Wilkinson.
The district’s four playoff teams — Water Valley, Veribest, Robert Lee and Garden City — combined to win eight playoff trophies.
