SAN ANGELO, TX — A team of fifth-grade students from Santa Rita Elementary School has qualified for the World VEX Robotics Competition in St. Louis – marking the first time a San Angelo ISD elementary campus has advanced to the global event.
The team earned its spot by winning the Teamwork Challenge at the state VEX Robotics competition in Garland.
Seven Santa Rita students will represent San Angelo on the world stage, competing alongside top student-led teams from around the globe.
The World VEX Robotics Competition is the premier annual event for VEX Robotics. Recognized as the world’s largest robotics competition, the championship includes more than 17,000 teams from more than 50 countries and showcases student excellence in teamwork, engineering, problem-solving and innovation.
Santa Rita students demonstrated exceptional dedication in preparing for this opportunity, according to an SAISD press release, spending countless hours before and after school refining their robots and strategies – often giving up recess and special time to ensure they are competition-ready.
The World VEX Robotics Competition for elementary students will be held April 28-30 at the America’s Center Convention Complex in downtown St. Louis.
