CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX — A 65-year-old Oklahoma man was killed Wednesday night when the semi-truck he was driving overturned in the center median of Interstate 20, authorities said.
John Aaron Bristow of Shawnee died in the crash, which occurred about 8:10 p.m. near mile marker 322, according to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. No one else was injured.
The investigation found that Bristow, who was wearing a seat belt, was driving a 2017 Mack truck tractor towing a semi-trailer westbound in the inside lane. Jose Rosado, 69, of Merkel, was driving a 2005 Kenworth tow truck in the outside lane when its front-left tire blew out, causing it to veer toward Bristow’s truck.
Rosado steered to avoid a collision and left the roadway. Bristow took evasive action by steering into the center median, where his vehicle overturned, the report said. Rosado, who was also wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Conditions at the time were clear with dry roads. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
