5 Killed in Plane Crash Near Wimberley

WIMBERLEY, TX — A small plane traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a wooded area near Wimberley late Thursday night, killing all five adults on board, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 11:03 p.m. and involved a Cessna 421C aircraft that was destroyed in a post-impact fire, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said five people were aboard the plane when it went down near a neighborhood. All five were confirmed dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released as authorities work to notify family members.

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling from Amarillo to New Braunfels at the time of the crash, Becerra said. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

Officials said another aircraft was in the area at the time but landed safely in New Braunfels.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the NTSB are investigating the incident. The NTSB said it is gathering flight track data, communications records, weather information and pilot credentials as part of the inquiry. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.

Wimberley is located about 15 miles northwest of San Marcos.
