SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State closed out its final team meet before the conference championships with a strong showing, collecting 19 provisional marks and a program record over two days at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo.
The highlight came from senior Marie Schuler, who won the hammer throw and broke her own program record with a mark of 201 feet, 7 inches (61.44 meters). The throw surpasses her previous record of 201-2 set at last year’s Lone Star Conference Championships, ranks fourth nationally and sets a new LSC record.
Schuler led a sweep in the event as Esma Pajt and Kamryn Williams finished second and third, respectively. Williams also improved a qualifying mark in the discus and won the shot put.
Kylie Frush added a win in the long jump with a provisional mark, while Kaylee Price recorded qualifying times in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles, winning the latter in under a minute.
Ekaterina Fedotova captured the javelin title with a provisional throw, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Frush, Keagan Galmor, Aaliyah Harrison and Kinlee Lawlis posted a qualifying time in its win. Harrison also won the 100 and 200 meters.
Emma Dikken (400 meters), Ashley Stratton (800 and 1,500 meters), Chasity Benson (3,000-meter steeplechase) and the 4x400-meter relay team also recorded event victories.
On the men’s side, Kobi Valchar won the discus, while Vanam Sharma added a provisional in the event before winning the shot put.
Jonathan Wright took the pole vault title with a qualifying mark, and Jaime Moreno won the javelin with a provisional throw.
William Opare, running the 100 meters for the first time this season, won the event with a time of 10.17 seconds, ranking sixth nationally.
Jahleel Armstrong and Francis Patanpatan finished first and second in the 200 meters, while Adrian Nethersole won the 800 meters.
Dayvon Williams recorded a season-best jump to win the high jump and move to 11th nationally, and Taylor Briggs added a win in the 400-meter hurdles.
Javion Zavala (5,000 meters), Caden Glenn (3,000-meter steeplechase), and the 4x400-meter relay team of Tristan Guerrero, Evan Kipley, Clayton Carlin, and Diego Rios also earned victories.
Angelo State will now turn its focus to the Lone Star Conference Championships, scheduled in two weeks in Canyon.
