WALL, TX — The Wall softball team was one out away Friday from ending Jim Ned’s bid for a perfect run through District 6-3A.
But Wall couldn’t finish off the Lady Indians.
Jim Ned scored twice in the seventh inning to rally for a 3-2 win in the regular-season finale for both teams.
No. 13-ranked Jim Ned improved to 25-4 overall and 12-0 in district, while Wall fell to 25-4 and 9-3.
Jim Ned already had the district title locked up, but Wall had hoped to get revenge from an earlier loss and take some momentum into the playoffs.
Unlike the last time they played — when Jim Ned won a 13-10 shootout — Wall was able to keep the Lady Indians’ offense in check this time.
Wall’s Madee Williams went the distance and allowed seven hits and no earned runs, but her defense committed four errors behind her. Ultimately, it was an error with two outs in the seventh inning that scored both runs.
Jim Ned’s Paige Wilson pitched five innings and allowed four hits and a run, while Jayden Nunez pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and a run.
Jim Ned scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning before Wall answered right back in the bottom of the second.
Wall then went ahead 2-1 in the sixth inning to put the Lady Hawks in position to win.
Wall and Jim Ned will each open the postseason late next week.
