Angelo State Drops Sunday's Contest, Wins Series Against Texas A&M International

LAREDO, TX — Angelo State fell in a back-and-forth series finale Sunday, losing 8-6 to Texas A&M International at Jorge Haynes Field.

The Rams dropped to 20-10 overall and 13-2 on the road.

Texas A&M International scored first for the third time in the series, scoring runs on two-out RBI singles in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Angelo State responded in the third inning when Gamaliel Jones reached on a bunt and advanced on an error before Blake Wilhoite drove in a run with a double to right-center field.

The Dustdevils broke the game open in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs with two outs to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Rams' Tate Greene sparked a comeback in the fifth inning with a two-out, three-run home run to cut the deficit to one.

ASU took its first lead in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch allowed Austin Beck to score, and Greene followed with a sacrifice fly to give Angelo State a 7-6 advantage.

Texas A&M International answered in the bottom half, scoring three runs on a sacrifice fly, an RBI single and a wild pitch to reclaim the lead. The Rams failed to score in the 9th and fell 8-6.

Despite the loss on Sunday, the Rams captured the series win overall with three wins over the weekend. Angelo State won 3-2 in the opener last Friday, and then swept the doubleheader on Saturday, 10-9 and 5-3.

The Rams return home Friday to open a four-game series against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
