KERMIT, TX — Winkler County authorities arrested a 22-year-old Kermit man Thursday on charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery after he allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old woman, forced her into her vehicle and drove her against her will to New Mexico.
Zachery Tyler Kennedy was taken into custody without incident Wednesday in the 500 block of North Ave. C in Kermit on warrants stemming from an April 28 incident investigated by the Kermit Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, according to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies allege Kennedy struck the woman numerous times in the face and body with a closed fist during a physical altercation, forced her into her vehicle, and transported her to Jal, N.M., while continuing to assault her physically. He later released her in Jal and left with her vehicle, authorities said.
Kennedy faces three charges:
• Aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony.
• Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
• Assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
Justice of the Peace K. Jones set bond at $225,000. Kennedy was transported to the Winkler County Detention Center.
Kennedy has a residence listed in Kermit.
He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
