ODESSA, TX — A 22-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his common-law wife at a North Odessa apartment complex, police said.
David Dewayne Horn Jr. was arrested in the death of 22-year-old I’sis Garza, the Odessa Police Department reported.
Officers responded about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to the High Plains Apartments at 3727 Andrews Highway on a report of a gunshot victim. They found Garza unresponsive on the ground and provided emergency CPR, but she died of her injuries. Next of kin were notified.
Investigators determined Horn had fled the scene in a purple Dodge Charger. Officers located the vehicle traveling south on Grant Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Horn was taken to the Odessa Police Department for questioning.
During an interview, Horn told police he shot Garza after an argument with her, authorities reported. Detectives obtained a warrant, and he was charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
