ODESSA, TX — An Odessa woman wanted on a warrant for stealing $3,000 worth of Pokémon cards from a March home burglary was arrested Monday morning after she assaulted two police officers during a welfare check.
Erica Lee Hager had an outstanding warrant for theft of property valued at $2,500 or more after a March 2 burglary at a home in the 3100 block of North Tom Green Avenue. The victim reported several items stolen, including a red Nike shoebox containing the Pokémon cards.
On March 6, officers responded to a suspicious person call at Retro Hall, 3126 Andrews Highway. An employee told police Hager had tried to sell him the cards, not realizing he was the burglary victim. The victim later identified the labeled shoebox and confirmed his cards were inside. Hager gave multiple, conflicting accounts of how she obtained them, police said.
The warrant was executed Monday when officers responded to the area of Dawn Avenue and Yukon Road for a welfare check on a woman reportedly lying in the street without a shirt. They found Hager walking shirtless in the 6900 block of Dawn Avenue.
Authorities said they approached her in a marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. When officers attempted to detain her in handcuffs, she resisted and did not comply with commands.
During the struggle, Hager scratched one officer, causing abrasions and bleeding to both hands, bit the same officer on the right shoulder and kicked a second officer in the chest and torso, reports stated. Officers determined she was intoxicated on a substance other than alcohol based on her erratic behavior, rapid speech and paranoia. Investigators said she intentionally and knowingly caused injury to a public servant.
Hager was taken to Medical Center Hospital for clearance before being booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
She is being held on a combined bond of $59,500 on charges of theft of property valued at $2,500 or more but less than $30,000, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest or search or transport, public intoxication and pedestrian in roadway.
