ABILENE, TX — An Abilene man has been charged with murder after he killed a woman by running her over with a vehicle during a domestic dispute.
Christopher Covington-Smith was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Fort Worth last week on a warrant for first-degree murder for the killing of Corissa Trowbridge on Thursday, March 12.
Trowbridge was found dead on the side of the road at about 4 a.m. after a report of a hit-and-run.
According to court documents, Trowbridge had been involved in prior domestic disputes with Covington-Smith, and the two had reportedly argued shortly before she was hit by the vehicle.
Surveillance video also recorded the incident and showed the vehicle reversing, accelerating and striking Trowbridge before leaving.
Police later found Trowbridge’s 2016 Ford Expedition at a nearby residence with blood on it and a missing side mirror.
Covington-Smith’s brother and father have since been charged with third-degree felony hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon.
