LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX — One person was killed, and six others were injured in a three-vehicle crash Saturday night on FM 1585 in Lubbock County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred around 9:56 p.m., approximately 350 feet east of Avenue P.
Authorities said Leo Schneider, 72, of Slaton, was driving a 2017 Nissan Armada westbound when his vehicle was struck head-on. Schneider was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
According to DPS, a 2021 Ford Mustang traveling eastbound collided with the rear of a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup. The impact forced the pickup into the westbound lane, where it collided with Schneider’s vehicle.
The driver of the Mustang, Bode Arnold, 28, of Lubbock, was not injured.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, Chase Stevenson, 21, of Spring Branch, and five passengers were transported to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. The passengers were identified as Emilie Steubing Biegert, 20, of San Antonio; Jaxson Rotge, 19, of Ingram; Ella Locker, 18, of Brookesmith; Gabriella Bailey, 19, of Spring Branch; and Danielle Borrego, 20, of Boerne.
Authorities said all occupants were wearing seat belts except one passenger in the pickup.
Weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 50 mph.
The crash remains under investigation.
