Fatal Crash in Comanche County Claims Life

COMANCHE, TX — A 30-year-old man from Dublin died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 67 after his pickup truck hydroplaned on a wet road during rain, authorities said.

Thomas Cruz Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at the scene last Wednesday evening, according to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. on March 4, roughly 2 miles west of County Road 4188 in Comanche County.

Gonzalez was driving west in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 when the vehicle entered a gentle right-hand curve. Investigators said he was exceeding a safe speed for the slippery conditions and was not wearing a seat belt. The rear tires hydroplaned, causing the truck to spin 180 degrees, cross oncoming lanes, and skid onto the eastbound unimproved shoulder, where it overturned and ejected him.

No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph.
